What is a fiber optic transceiver?

A fiber optic transceiver is an Ethernet transmission medium conversion unit that interchanges short-distance twisted pair electrical signals with long-distance optical signals, and is also referred to as a photoelectric converter in many places. Optical transceivers are typically used in real-world network environments where Ethernet cables cannot be covered and must use fiber to extend the transmission distance, and are typically located in the access layer application of the broadband metropolitan area network, while connecting to the metropolitan area on the last mile of the fiber. The network and the outer layer of the network also played a huge role.

Optical transceivers are usually used in actual network environments where optical fibers must be used to extend the transmission distance. They play a big role in connecting networks. Optical transceivers can convert electrical signals to be transmitted into optical signals. The received optical signal is converted into an electrical signal and then input to the receiving end.

According to the network management, it can be divided into network management type optical transceivers and non-network management type optical transceivers.

According to the management type, it can be divided into network management type Ethernet fiber transceiver and non-network management type Ethernet fiber transceiver. The former supports carrier-class network management; the latter is set by the hardware dial switch to set the electric port working mode, plug and play.

3. By nature

In terms of nature, fiber optic transceivers can be divided into single mode fiber transceivers and multimode fiber transceivers. The difference between the two is that the transmitted distance is different. The range covered by the single-mode transceiver is 20km-120km; the transmission distance of the multi-mode transceiver is generally 2km-5km.

The data is divided into single fiber optical transceivers and dual fiber optical transceivers. The data received and transmitted by the former is transmitted on one light; the data received and transmitted by the dual fiber optical transceiver is transmitted on a pair of light.

5. By work method

According to the working mode, it can be divided into full-duplex mode and half-duplex mode. The former means that the data transmission and reception are performed on two different transmission lines respectively, and the communication parties can simultaneously perform transmission and reception operations; the latter is the same line. Both receiving and sending, the two parties can not send and receive data at the same time, there will be a delay in time.
